  Marble and Granite Imports has purchased the land comprising the "ball fields" entrance to Ruffner Mountain, and plans to fence it off and build on the land. This land has been used to access the preserve for decades. It contains the old rail bed for the Birmingham Mineral Railroad, along with the former Red Gap mine. The city of Irondale tried to make very reasonable accommodations, but were unsuccessful due to the greed of Marble and Granite Imports. The details of the negotiations are available on Facebook and Nextdoor. I post this as a former customer. I'm embarrassed for it. Please consider a different source for countertops. Mr. Van Winkle, shame on you.
